With the UK recruitment industry growing faster than ever before and over 5,000 agencies entering the market in 2015, business is booming.

The UK is now the third biggest recruitment market globally after the United States and Japan and the demand for work is changing. Contracting has become more and more attractive for many skilled workers and companies’ continue to search for candidates to fill their skills gap.

Thoroughly research the industry and marketplace you plan to operate within so you can steer your business in the right direction. Identify any niche areas you could cover which may set you apart from your competitors. Know your patch both geographically and demographically.

Do I have a solid business plan and an active database?
Ensure you have a solid business plan and initial set of clients you can approach. An investor will need to see you have a blueprint for a successful business. Set out your plans especially marketing and sales activities and how you plan to deliver your objectives.

Do I have support to launch my business?
To launch you will need investment, systems and stability and a drive to chase after clients. Banks attitudes towards investment can vary so consider other routes for funding such a business partners/joint ventures who can provide the funding and back-office support services to help launch and grow your business.

Starting any business can be tough. It takes a lot of work, discipline and personal sacrifice but when times get tough, just remember the reasons you wanted to set-up alone in the first place.
