Be the Boss of Your Own Recruitment business but listen to the Apprentice first

Be The Boss Of Your Own Recruitment Business
Be the boss – apprentice
But Listen To The Apprentice First!
Perhaps one of the most visible recruitment business start ups of recent times is Hyper Recruitment Solutions, set up by one Ricky Martin (no – not that one !). You’ll might remember that this one won The Apprentice in 2012.

As the winner he of course got a hefty £250,000 investment from Sir Alan Sugar. Job done then. Up and running, with no problems. Because after all, that’s all that’s holding you back isn’t it? If you have the financial backing you’d start on your own tomorrow. Wouldn’t you?

Well you might. But before you do it’s worth considering some of the points Mr Martin made in a recent interview.

We’ll leave aside the fact that despite Sir Alan’s backing he had to ‘get out the screwdriver’ and build his own desk. You’re presumably aware that starting a business means getting your hands dirty.

Where it starts to get really interesting is the ‘back story’. Mr Martin was used to working in a large recruitment company. If you’re reading this with any interest you probably are too. And just like Ricky you’ve got ideas and want to start on your own. What Ricky realised the minute he did start, even with that quarter of a million of Sir Alan’s smackers in his account, was that suddenly all those things you took for granted, like the systems and software aren’t – anywhere! You’ve got to start from scratch.

Mr Martin then saw with startling clarity that entrepreneurship means that you’ve got to make it work. And to make it work you’ve got to sort all the procurement issues that loom over a start up. There are premises to sort. Computers to sort. Cars maybe. The phones. Furniture, stationery, branding, website……you get the picture. He was left to sort it all.

Here’s an interesting point too. With commendable honesty Ricky admitted that maybe his ego was such that he found it hard to ask for help. It’s a big issue. You’re probably an outstanding recruitment consultant. But with the best will in the world that doesn’t make you an outstanding web designer, branding expert or software installer. Getting professional advice is essential.

None of this means that he isn’t grateful to Sir Alan, nor that Lord Sugar has simply left him to sink or swim. On the contrary. Having ‘Britain’s toughest boss’ as a mentor has been really important to Ricky, who freely admits that having an experienced, knowledgable, partner has been a huge benefit.

So, ideally, if you’re thinking about setting up your own recruitment business you’ ll be looking for rock solid financial backing, a mentor, the systems and software you need from day one, and of course someone to guide you through all that initial procurement of offices, desks and phone lines.

We might just be exactly who you’re looking for!

At Recruit Ventures we have a business model that provides 100% funding, shares and dividends, a guaranteed salary, no financial risk and access to a full back office support function to support start up recruitment businesses.
