Making a Change

Starting your own recruitment company? Means making a change.

There’s a quotation that says ‘we shrink from change but nothing can come into being without it’. To amplify the point the speaker went on to say that, for instance, “You can’t even be nourished if the food doesn’t undergo some form of change.”

Change is inevitable

Never a truer word was spoken, especially if you relate the idea to starting your own recruitment business. Change is inevitable. For a start you’ll be making the change from employee to employer. To bring your dream of running your own business into reality you’re going to have to make that commitment, and deal with the change.

Step away from the regular salary and take a risk.

That particular change is of course brought into sharpest focus when it comes to money. Put simply, you’re going take that step away from the regular salary and take a risk.

Then there’s the necessary change in attitude. It’s unlikely that you’ll lose any ‘attitude’ when it comes to getting out there, finding clients and making it happen. But now you’ll have other responsibilities, and with them comes the need for a wider managerial outlook. One that can embrace the overheads, the premises, the computers and software. The staff. Their salaries. All of which can impact on your having the time to get out there, find clients and make it happen.

A change in attitude and approach

In fact, if you rewind a bit, you need a change in attitude and approach even before you get to that stage. As a recruitment consultant you’ve not had to worry before about how the business is financed. Now you will. And that means getting in front of potential backers, pitching your business plan and raising the capital you need.

The problem comes when, like many a recruitment start up before you, you find that no matter how exciting it is to you, no matter how convinced you are that you’re going to change the face of recruitment, it’s not necessarily seen with the same fervor by the bank manager. Or the software supplier. Or the Jobs Board sales team. Or indeed anybody that you need to arrange credit with.

Is it change or Risk?

To them you’re just another startup business. They don’t work in recruitment, so they tend to see the demands on your cash flow projections rather than the potential in your plan. They don’t see change. They see risk.

At The Recruit Venture Group we’re different.

For a start we do work in recruitment. We understand it. We know what you’ll need and we can help. We provide 100% funding to get you up and running. You’ll have access to our back office, so your accountancy, systems and back up are taken care of. It makes that change rather less painful. And with our backing you’ll be able to pay yourself a salary from the start, which is another change addressed very nicely.

By the way, that quotation I mentioned earlier, well it came from Marcus Aurelius, around AD170. So some things it seems never change.

If you have 5 years minimum experience in recruitment, 3 most recently in the sector you wish to launch, and you’re ready to make the change.
